Protective Custody Bags

Making Bags for Children in Protective Custody

Every year thousands of children are brought into protective custody. Often times these children will find themselves with little more than a trash bag and a few of their belongings. In this project, we hope to help comfort these children in a time of a lot of stress. We did this by making what we call "comfort bags" for the children to give them something that they can call their own that is more than a trash bag. In total we ended up making 63 bags!

Each bag contained:

2 Toothbrushes

2 Tubes of Toothpaste

3 Travel Sized Shampoo Bottles

3 Bars of Soap

7 Pads (for the female bags)

1 Toy

Dental hygiene supplies were donated by several dental offices throughout the community. Toys were donated from families through a local volleyball tournament. The rest were bought through donation from Dow Chemical, Kroger, and our anonymous donors. Thank you!
